A fantastic opportunity for the role senior Grounds Keeper at Fairlight Hall Gardens, not far from Hastings.
The gardens are situated within the 90 acre estate, and is located just outside Hastings and commands impressive views over the English Channel and along the south coast. This fine and busy garden run on organic principles is home to a variety of beautiful and interesting flower borders, impressive kitchen garden, various lawns, lakes, and woodland and wildflower areas. The garden is well stocked and equipped which makes for the ideal garden to work in and is home to a friendly team of gardeners.
The Role
The Senior Grounds Keeper is a full time post Monday to Friday, they will report to the Head Gardener and be responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of the grounds within the garden including drive, paths, lawns, hedges, trees, meadows, woodland areas, compost and machinery yard, water features and a tennis court. In this diverse role, which requires initiative, flexibility and working to high standards, the applicant must be familiar with use of a wide range of garden machinery both ride on and pedestrian.
You will work together with and give direction to one assistant Grounds Keeper, Trainees and Part time staff. The Senior Grounds keeper will plan out and schedule works around the garden; they will be required to complete skilled tasks such as mowing, use of chainsaw, hedge cutting, brush cutting, leaf clearance, keeping the driveways and hard standing areas weed free, maintenance of water features. Responsible for the upkeep of the chickens and peacocks and collecting eggs for the house. Liaising and assisting the Estate Manager and House Manager when required for the setup of events and needs and requirements of the House.
This role gives an excellent opportunity to work across a wide range of areas, commanding a wide range of skills. No two days are the same. Some offsite garden tasks will be required from time to time.
